This category encompasses animal figures that reflect the open ocean as a habitat. It is aimed at model builders, diorama creators, collectors, and painters who want to create expansive marine scenes with realistic animal representations. The focus is on pelagic species, migratory large mammals, and seabirds that inhabit open water areas. Typical scenes range from impressive whale migrations and mother-calf encounters to underwater hunting sequences and flocks of birds gliding over nutrient-rich currents. Miniature builds benefit from expansiveness through gentle color gradients, floating platforms, suggested currents, and scattered rocky islands with nesting sites. For realistic compositions, figures like the swimming leatherback turtle, the sperm whale with calf, the imposing Greenland shark/polar shark, or the elegant spotted eagle ray are ideal. Complementing these are orcas, dwarf whales, leaping bottlenose dolphins, and various poses of seals and harbor seals that fill the scene. Seabirds such as blue-footed boobies in flight or rockhopper penguins accentuate the surface and coastline, while red salmon and small sharks add underwater dynamics.
